Analysis: Gil Brandt MMQB All-Time Draft Team

By John Turney

Gil Brandt's team is up next:

Brandt picked fine safeties that match well. However, Brandt didn't pick a middle linebacker. he has a rushbacker in Thomas (a 3-4 fit) and two fine WILLs in Brooks and Howley. Howley, did, however play some strong side linebacker with the Cowboys, but finding a MIKE in these three will be hard. The tackles are fine, especially since Klecko can play over a center when needed. Brandt picked two right ends, though both were great pass rushers, he would get a lot of sacks from he outside. But which would play on the strong side?
There is no criticism of Brandt's offense. One question could be asked, "I there enough ball for both Payton and Brown?".
Rod Woodson would do the returns for Brandt. His kicker is outstanding, one of the tops already. I am not a fan of Lechler, though. When you look at his stats or watch him punt you can always expect a return. He's not like Hekker or Thomas Morstead who are really trying for net yardage. Lechler reminds me of Rohn Stark or Jerrell Wilson.
