Morten Andersen spent $5,000 of his own money in the development of a kicking shoe which he wore beginning that season. It was also the year he hit a 60-yard field goal which was, at the time, five yards farther than his previous best.
Was it the shoe?
Andersen said the shoe felt great but that it was just a tool—that you needed skill and some luck to make one from 60.
Here are some shots of the shoe—
Well, I guess I can’t resist. I am 65 yrs. old & have watched football since the last Brown’s championship & never saw a kicker that seemed to be so automatically acclaimed, till Justin Tucker of course. When your SO good you design your own kicking shoe, NOT a pair mind you, but a plush glove-leather kicking shoe, you are the one who says “ Catch me if you can”! Morton just needed a team like Tucker had to get the full credit he deserved. The man did glow & had that “presence “ to where if it was a close game, he WANTED to have the chance to seal it.
