BOOK REVIEW—The Point After: How One Resilient Kicker Learned there was More to Life

 By John Turney

Was able to read Sean Conley's autobiography this week. It is a The Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group, Inc. publication and was released last Summer.

Conley lets us know one simple fact, "Being a kicker is a lonely job. In the NFL, each team carries just one. One kicker. No backup. You’re it."

The book begins with Conley's youth and how he became obsessed with kicking in the NFL and is quite candid about some youthful struggles in Erie, PA, and becoming a walk-on kicker a Pitt.

He had a shot stint in the NFL and via injuries and other issues turned to peace, yoga, and meditations.

The Point After is an unusual football book. So many football books are "look at me, look at me and my accomplishments;. This one is more human and shares personal stories of relationships, family and dreams achicved and, to a degree, cut short and then, perhaps, replaced by something better. Those are life lessons many can learn from

It is a book we recommend. Worth the price and time. Glad to have read it.

It is avaulable the usual places and Amazon.
