Micah Parsons vs. LT—Rookie Seasons

 By John Turney
Just past midseason the social media pages were full of talk about Micah Parsons perhaps winning the NFL Defensive Player of Year Year Award. He was surging, playing great football. By week 14 there were comparisons to Lawrence Taylor's rookie season of 1981.

Taylor not only won the NFL Defensive Rookie and Rookie of the Year awards he was voted the AP Defensive Player of the Year. Parsons won the prior two awards but did not win the Defensive Player of the Year Award—T.J. Watt did.
However, while not even attempting to compare careers, Parsons did have a great first-year campaign. He didn't make as many tackles (playing defensive end in nickel will do that) but he had more tackles for loss and sacks—
Parsons has about a dozen years to prove if he's a Hall of Famer. We'll see. meanwhile, he deserves a lot of praise for his rookie year. Well done.
