What the NFL Needs Now? More Roller Derby Featuring Active Players.

LOOKING BACK
By John Turney

Ah yes, back in the day they did this, they did that. But, this may be best ever.

Apparently,  the 49ers and the Raiders would don roller skates and join the San Francisco Bay Bombers on the track, and even did so using some real physicality. The photographer, Jim  Fitzpatrick said, “That was before the NFL took off and salaries skyrocketed.  Once that happened, the guys couldn’t afford to be fooling around.”

  1. John Turney did an awesome job colorizing the photo! Also, thank you very much for the credit but I just supplies the photo from my personal collection... I'm not the actual photographer. To view another photo from that 49ers vs Raiders Roller Derby exhibition

  2. Yes, the NFL is becoming more and more like Roller Derby. It doesn't matter which game you watch the well timed poor play by good players is only second to the fixed calls. Stands are no longer full as to many fans continuely watch officials make calls clearly favoring one team over the other. When comments from the booths also questioning many of the officials outrageous calls on live television, obviously there is something seriously wrong going on. So YES, Pro Football should be the next prime time sit com because it is becoming a joke.
