ReplyDeleteThanks John, hope everything works out.
Stafford was also first choice with PFF.
Robinson and Gibbs are the league's most spectacular runners but I felt Cook and Taylor were more valuable to their team's success. Taylor tapered off, but losing his QB didnt help. McCaffery was a good choice though. He carried the team during Purdy's absence.
McBride makes sense, increasing his TD numbers without Murray but 2nd team is hard to call. Pitts surged at the end but hardly did anything till Cousins took over. PFF chose Kittle but he missed too many games in my view. I think Henry in NE gets the nod, being on one of the NFL's best offenses.
Had Adams not missed games, could have easily made the wideout list.
On defense, I can understand Anderson but Hunter and Hutchinson were excellent as well. Just alot of good pass rushers, including Turner, who I would choose over Heyward.
PFF did not choose Dike, but I did. A bright spot on a terrible team year.
Running back was tough, I lean to running/receivers ... but if someone wanted Cook or Taylor, etc ... it is easy to defend. Henry vs Cook on2nd team All-AFC very tough, and not sure I was right.
DeleteAd yes ... Kitte, Lane Johnson, Wirfs all missed too much time ...
n
As far asHeyward, I wish I could have explained -- Brown and Heyward were 4i/5 techs ... more often over a tackle in base defense, Williams and Simmins were more or less the3-techs, so Kobie lost out to them as the "rush" tackle.
I pick one "DE" and one "DT" and one "NT" but that does not mean that is the right way, these days it is harder to separate... but it's the way I like to do it.

DeleteNo sweat, John ...
I didnt see alot of these players enough and respect your opinion. I wasnt sure for the alignment of the Seahawks, I thought Murphy was more a tackle than nose but Jarran Reed must have been situational or hurt more? What were your thoughts on Poona Ford at nose for the Rams, did he stand out to you?
Yeah, I get it, Murphy and Davis played the most in the A-gap. Not many play over the center nose-up any more but in general, in base, Murphy and Davis play over a guard ... these days they call it a G-tech, and the rusher the 3-tech .. so I generally divided them that way, maybe it is right or maybe it is right.
DeleteI hope things are good with your family. Losing a parent is hard. Been there.

ReplyDeleteInteresting looking at the AP All-Pro selections. It looks like they are recognizing two, 1st team running backs by creating an All Purpose selection with the choice going to McCafferty. Robinson vaulted to first-team due to his all purpose yards as well, despite others having more yards and TDs.
A crazy universe having Pitts at second team All-Pro, when he got three of his five total TDs in one game. He had only one going into that wk 15 game, but maybe the voters felt he was the catalyst for the Falcons four game, closing win streak?
Chase made 1st team All-Pro again, but had a much better season last year. St Brown, Adams or even Pickens, were better this year.
Surprised Surtain was second-team All-Pro despite Denver having so many sacks? You called it, John. Glad to see Burns and Hunter get 2nd team recognition from AP. Parsons got 1st team recognition as well.
The all-purpose replaces, I suppose, the old flex player they had for a time ... Pitts was a hard thing, TE ... Kittle, and Bowers IMO, missed too much time, like Wirfs, Lane Johnson at tackle. It was one of those years and positions where pickings were thing. One year PSI had no blue defensie tackles even though there were HOFers playing that year ... So I agree with you, I just think there were few alternatives.
DeleteBurns was hard, too. Brandon Thorn dos not like AP's pick of him. Saying his sacks were low quality -- and yes, I trust his analysis but also (I went with Burns 2nd team all-NFC) Burns did knock down some passes and forcned a few fumbles and did get 16-1/2 sacks, so there is nuance, but Burns a good year on terrible defense.

ReplyDeleteGetting back to the AP All- Pro selections, was confused on the Edge selections? So instead of two traditional OLB spots, and Edge spot took one of their places?
You had Anderson Jr taking one spot(Edge)and Parsons(OLB)? Or was Parsons considered a second Edge spot?
Its the opposite on 2nd team selections with Burns at Edge, and two DEs in Hunter and Hutchinson, unless one of those was considered OLB?
Also, Robinson is listed on both teams at RB but considered All-Purpose at 2nd team. Why not put Gibbs at that spot? Achane could have also been considered, and three of the top four TD scorers, including Henry as well, did not get recognition for four slots ...
Olave really helped turn around the Saints season but I believe Adams or Higgins in Cincy, were just as deserving ...
Always oddities in voting for edge and OLBer, they put OLBers as edge but they don't always mandate it so you get crossover. Just like you are seeing with the All-purpose ... same thing would happen with the flex ... and also the nickelback ... I didn't pick all purpose but if I did sure Gibbs, for years I picked a third down back and a nickel rusher but didn't think year, I may update when I do the narrative .. like I'd pick Gainwell as the receiving back and not sure on nickel rusher but there is so much crossover, that it's not like it used to be -- a Sproles who comes in on 3rd down or a Robert Mathis, in years he didn't start, coming on on third downs. You know, specialists. Now the specialists are really guys who split time with the "starter" in most cases.

DeleteThanks ... always look forward to everyone's selections considering they can help with eventual HOF election, along with a championship.
