PFJ's 2010s All-Decade Team

By John Turney
For the 2010s All-Decade, we went with three receivers and added a fifth defensive back who could play slot corner as well as their normal position.

"Sink end" is a defensive end who moved in passing situations much of the time. Watt and Campbell were the best at that spot (power end if you will). Cameron Jordan nosed Chander Jones who played some rush backer, too. Michael Bennett is a strong honorable mention as a sink end. Cameron Wake's 95 sacks in the decade deserve a mention as well, though we don't think he was effective making plays against the run when run plays "showed". Fletcher Cox is also an honorable mention.

We didn't ignore nose tackles as the Hall of Fame will, we picked Snacks Harrison. Also, we picked a Will 'backer, Lavonte David. The Hall of Fame will pick two middle linebackers we are sure. It's too bad, David is one of the top three linebackers of the 2010s we believe.

Stephon Gilmore's surge in 2018 and 2019 secured him the Second-team corner slot.
Player of the DecadeTom Brady

Defensive Player of the Decade—JJ Watt

Runners up—Aaron Rodgers and Aaron Donald

  1. It's close but I would have taken Peterson over Revis and Witten over Kelce. Revis and Kelce's SBs gave them the edge I guess. Gates had a case at TE as well on the 2nd team.

    1. Well, anyone's picks are as good as mine---Kelce's peak (which I weigh high) was higher than anyone but Gronk but some people prefer longevity

  2. I dunno...Revis at his peak is very very high up there.....I love seeing Kyle Jusczyck as all-decade.....a true "old school" football player and fullback

    1. That's the thing ... I thought Revis's best years were 08-11 and 2014 ... hurt in 12, good in 13 and 15, bad in 16 and 17, but I didnt watch every game, just an opinion.

  3. Solid list overall, nice job. Tyron Smith over Trent Williams? I mean it's close, but...

    1. Not that close. Williams was First-team All-Pro twice, but never consensus.

  4. Question: How is the "5th DB" done? Is that just he best DBs thatn weren't selected as a safety or cornerback? Or are you specifically taking guys who play the "5th" spot in a nickel package? Given Honey-Badger's "hybrid" nature, he seems like th natural pick for that spot.
Solid list. One could always quibble at the margins, different strokes ect. But I think this is a fine representation of the decade's best pro football.

    1. For this we picked a 5th DB, not a nickel back, it's a starter who often or usually played slot corner...
