Dave Osborn Wears Two Jerseys in Same Game

 By John Turney

A while back, we posted about the Rams running back Les Josephson wearing two different jersey numbers in the same 1967 game in Dallas. He began the game with his usual number -- 34 -- and finished wearing number 35 because his jersey was torn and beyond repair and the Rams didn't have a spare with his number on it.

In 1969, in a game against the Colts, the Vikings running back Dave Osborn began the game in number 41 and also wore number 42.

Later, in the second half, Osborn donned number 42. presumably for the same reason as Josephson—some kind of tear.

The Vikings runner gained just 7 yards on 6  carries that day. The lateral accounted for 3 yards in his rushing total so other than that he carried the ball six times for 4 yards.

However, he caught 6 passes for 80 yards and the initial touchdown of the game helping in the 52-14 rout of the defending NFL champions—although the Colts lost16-7 to the New York Jets in Super Bowl III.

Kapp, in addition to his record-tying 7 TD passes, threw for 449 yards.
