Fletcher Cox versus Kyle Long et al.

LOOKING BACK
By John Turney

Monday night had a very good, if little noticed matchup between guard Kyle Long and Fletcher Cox. Both are playing positions they didn't play last year, at least regularly.

Long was a guard for two years, then moved to tackle last year and now is back to guard. Cox played a lot of techniques recently, in that he was sometimes a 3-4 DE, he was a 3-technique in pass rush situations and even more. This year he is almost exclusively a left defensive tackle and plays both a shade on the center or 3-technique (outside shoulder of the guard) with the latter being the most predominant position.

Here are all the Bears running plays when Cox was in the game (there is one where Cox was out). Long received plenty of help, but there were times Cox was moved off the ball and a few where he got excellent penetration. Cox ended then night with 2 tackles which you can see in the clip below.

Cox is #91 and in this clip is at left defensive tackle in all but one play. Long is #75
