Late 1970s—Early 1980s DAMAC NFL Posters

LOOKING BACK
By John Turney

Really, the last set of NFL posters came from a Tennessee company called DAMAC. They used Chuck Ren as the artist for the vast majority of their posters. They kind of rolled out over a several-year period, with the more popular teams getting a second and even third poster. In all, they released posters from 1977 through 1983.

Here is the initial set with some of the second versions:

Here are some of the second editions or homages by Dan Tearle to the Chuch Ren work.

  1. Hmm. Someone added Dorsett's name to his jersey on that poster (it's not there on the original). And Zorn's image is based on a Staubach photo from the 1978 season.

  5. I have the 1983 Dallas Cowboys poster in mint unhung condition. But its printed in the UK and with a UK address too. But 100% authentic. Must have some value?

    1. The UK ones (usually by Sovereign print or the Picture Factory) are fairly common still. Value is £15-20 unframed, £20-30 framed.
The smaller versions £5-£10 tops. Hope that helps!
